Why Toxic People Don't Photograph Well

Boudoir can be intimidating - but it doesn’t have to be.

Every woman is nervous before they come in for a session. The amount of times I hear, “I don’t know if I can do this”, “I’m not confident enough in my skin”, and worst of all, “I don’t think anyone can make me look beautiful”, is astronomical. It is also TOXIC! It’s heartbreaking looking at these amazing, beautiful women who can only see broken and unlovable beings.

I will start by saying, the reason to book a boudoir shoot is NOT for anyone else, just you. You could give the product of it to someone else, but it will not make people love you. Please don’t come into a boudoir session thinking “maybe this will finally make them think I’m worth something”, because I assure you, you already are.

Body image issues range from mild to extreme, and they often fluctuate highs and lows. It’s a rollercoaster ride people often don’t realize they are on. Bad habits of negative thinking can start at a very young age and follow you into adulthood. The sad thing is it can easily develop by hearing negativity that is spoken by other women about themselves or others. It is something a lot of people think is normal. I’m here to tell you, it is not.

Here is a quote I heard once that I found extremely helpful:

When you feel yourself getting upset over a reaction you DIDN'T get, that’s when you know you need to check yourself.

There are many ways you can try to get out of these detrimental mindsets. Below are 5 of my favorite affirmations I try to tell myself every day in the mirror. You may not believe it at first, but trust me. One day you will look at yourself in the mirror, and you will.

I am beautiful. I am loved. I am worthy.

My body deserves love and respect.

I am enough.

I will treat myself with the compassion and kindness I deserve.

I am thankful my body takes care of me.

I’m not saying having a boudoir session is the magic potion to make you love yourself… in fact, it is important to wait until you are ready. But it will help you see yourself the way that I see you… and that is BEAUTIFUL.
